User talk:Only/Archive 3

Welcome to my talk page! I usually reply to messages right here (instead of coming to your talk page), so I suggest watching my page if you're looking for a reply. I watch user talk pages I comment on so we can keep discussions together. I will sometimes change really long signatures left here to save space and keep things neat and clean.

tank you, good luck user:mclucas603 (Mclucas603 (talk) 01:59, 17 March 2010 (UTC))

Why are you creating this "talent concert" page on your user page? How does that help the "wikipedia Brazil"? Either way (talk) 02:07, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

I agree, but I often come across as too bitey and I'm trying to fix that. If you think that I should proceed with the RfD, I would like to, and will undelete it. Thanks, Lauryn (utc) 02:01, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

I support the RFD, though I don't know if the community will. The community has more of "well he's not bothering anyone" type attitude towards things like this than I do. Either way (talk) 02:05, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
After thinking it over for a bit, I tend to agree with you. While true, he's not bothering anyone, policies apply to all. Thanks for the advice. Lauryn (utc) 02:06, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your help and comment but how can I agree with dispute over death of Shahi, when I myself have been to his tomb and provided many resources pertaining to over issue. You can look and decide yourself, what I am saying is true or not:
  1. A report by the UNHCR, shahi death is mentioned here but the date is different
  2. An article, which discussed conspiracies against Shahi
  • The Pakistani Press Foundation says Shahi was buried in 2001
  • The Sunday Telegraph claims Shahi died in 2003

Awaiting your swift response. I am searching more references on that, meanwhile, may I request you to add information from above mentioned sources or restore deleted section. All these sources confirms death of Shahi. Regards,--Imsaa (talk) 10:40, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

100px Stub Cup
Hi and thanks for taking part in the Stub Cup! Here are a few things you need to know before we start:
  • The Cup starts on May 1st 00:00 UTC and ends on June 30th 23:59 UTC.
  • The stubs you expand must have been created before May 1st 00:00 UTC.

The scoring system works as follows:

  • If you get a stub to a Regular Article, you will get 1 point.
    • For an article of 1500 to 2199 bytes of text you get 1 point.
    • From 2200 bytes of text and for every additional 700 bytes of text you get 1 extra point.
    • If the portion you add is unreferenced, you only get half the points it is worth.
  • If you get a stub promoted to Good Article status, you will get 25 extra points.
  • If you get a stub promoted to Very Good Article status, you will get 50 extra points.

About your draft "User:Either way/List of English football stadiums by capacity"

Recently I saw that the page "List of English football stadiums by capacity" was made and then you moved it. Is it possible for you to bring it back to the article space? The reason is that the article City of Manchester Stadium is proposed to be a very good article and I saw on Wikipedia:Requirements for very good articles that rule #7 states that there must be no red links left. It would be nice if you could move it back, just to make this proposal work. Minimac (talk) 17:45, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

I am the one who brought the proposal to PVGA, so I am well aware of the situation. I transwikied the capacity list from En. awhile back and realized it was going to need a lot of work. That's why I moved it to my user space rather than having it sitting in the article space in a bad condition. In the next hour or so, I should have the article done. Either way (talk) 20:07, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Bill Clinton

I disagree with this, as the tag says, controversial information about living persons must be removed immediately, and the unsourced content hasn't been reffed for two years, and hence there is a similar tag for this and that this was turned into a redirect. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 17:29, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Then remove the controversial information. There is not enough to justify removing the entire article, though. Those other two articles are completely different cases from the Bill Clinton article. Either way (talk) 17:32, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Red links

I would appreciate your guidance on red links. I had thought that red links help rather than hurt. If a specialized word is introduced in an article, I thought that we are supposed to make it a red link. This tells the reader that it is a specialized term and tells other editors that it needs a separate article. I thought that the page Special:WantedPages helps prioritize what articles get written based on the the number of red links in the entire encyclopedia. What criteria do you use for deciding whether to link to a term or to leave it unlinked? Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 17:12, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Art Institute of Chicago

I hope that you will reconsider the deletion of the Art Institute of Chicago. It is clearly not a "copy and paste" of the Wikipedia article. It is much better than the English Wikipedia, because it has better coverage of the European collection and cuts way back on African American art. If you do a side by side comparison you will see that it is not a cut and paste. I have requested a deletion review. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 03:11, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Due to what I viewed was a risk to the user, I deleted the page and its RFD per WP:CHILD, and I blocked the user per our blocking policy. If you have any concerns with my actions, please e-mail me. Griffinofwales (talk) 22:46, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

I have several reasons for doing the GC-MS article: 1) It gives us a third article for Category:Mass spectrometry, and I understand that Wikipedia wants three for a separate category. 2) It is a very tangible article about an every day use and not as theoretical subject like the Woodward-Hoffmann rules. 3) It is a very central technique.

I had planned to leave it sit for 12 hours (at least) before moving it to article space. Everyone has different work styles. Some people find it better to put things aside and take a fresh look later. Being a volunteer at Wikipedia means that each editor uses his own best judgment as to what to do and what order to do them. Racepacket (talk) 15:47, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

Right, but being that you're under edit restrictions right now, you need to address the concerns the community has had with your edits rather than adding to these concerns. The community has asked you to address the complexity and other issues of your previous work. What the community wants is you to stop and concentrate on cleaning up those articles. It does not want you to push those to the side and add more articles to the "to-do" list. Again, please address the previous concerns rather than starting a new set of headaches. Either way (talk) 15:53, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

Penn State

Of course, you are absolutely correct. During my years at En Wikipedia WikiProject Universities, when something of national import would happen on a campus, a section would develop and grow to the point that it was spun off to a daughter article. The amount of coverage on Simple English Wikipedia is probably 3-4 sentences more than on En Wikipedia, but En Wikipedia has a much longer daughter article en:Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal. (I have used the term "child abuse" rather than "sexual abuse" in keeping with the family nature of Simple Wikipedia's audience.)

We have two choices. First, I will build up the non-scandal portions of the article. Second, if you wish, you can spin off the "scandal section". Although we are simple, we owe it to our readers to cover a matter that has hit the front page of newspapers throughout America. Hence, I don't see "cutting back" on our coverage as a proper option. Thank you again for all that you do for Simple Wikipedia and maintaining its quality. Racepacket (talk) 14:34, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Flood of QD requests

I would hope that we could all discuss the situation in a civilized manner, rather than having individual articles deleted as soon as I post the diff on the (deleted) article talk pages. I want to cooperate with everyone, but I think this is being handled in a very bad way. Thank you in advance for your understanding. Racepacket (talk) 22:42, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Again, I see that you have deleted Naval Air Station Glenview. Perhaps it would be better to let the discussion reach a concensus and give us an opportunity to edit the articles before deleting them. With a flood of QD requests coming in all at one time, it is difficult to address all of them at the same time. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 16:47, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
Or, maybe the article should be addressed BEFORE they're posted. Only (talk) 20:58, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Please restore Deauxma's article. This is a different Wikipedia project and this discussion is irrelevant here. Even the notability guidelines are different. Rebecca1990 (talk) 21:54, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

The guidelines are not different. The only difference is that Simple splits 1 and 2 into two separate points whereas En. Wikipedia's combines it in one point (1.). Simple Wikipedia's inclusion standards are generally more stringent than English Wikipedia's, so if it's been deleted twice there, I see no reason why it should stand here. You're welcome to bring this to WP:AN for input from other administrators. Only (talk) 22:19, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

The Muskie hook is good...but Oregonian2012 has a underconstruction template on it right now. If that gets removed, then it's a yes from me. Only (talk) 23:18, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
I removed the template since no ongoing editing is being made. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 01:07, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the Help and Giving me a better understanding.

Also… When I go to edit something, it says Vandal Warner on the left side of my screen with all of the tools and quick links. What does it mean? --Pending(tell me I screwed up and where)

If you click those links when editing someone's talk page, it will leave that warning/message on their talk page. So, for example, if I click the "test edit" link, it shows up like this:
25px Thank you for trying things out on Wikipedia. Your test worked, but because it had things in it which did not help improve the page, it was reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox if you would like to do more tests. You may also want to read the welcome page to learn about helping the Simple English Wikipedia. Thank you. Only (talk) 21:32, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
You can use those to warn vandals or to leave welcome messages to newer users who have made several good edits so far. Also, could you please change the colors on your signature? The gray and blue are almost impossible to read against a white background. I suggest some darker colors. Only (talk) 21:32, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Let me see what I learned today about Vandalism. (which there seems to be a lot of)

  • Revert vandalism you see, or use request for deletion if the article makes no sense or it does not meet the wikipedia's criteria standard.
  • If it is a user's first time editing/vandalizing, leave a welcome template/welcome vandal template.
  • If it is not the users first time editing and deliberately vandalized a page leave a level one vandal warning.
  • If it is any later than the first vandalize leave the corresponding vandal warning.
  • If they continue you request for the user to be blocked for vandalism.

Anything I missed? Pending(tell me I screwed up and where)

You don't need to welcome ever user you see. So I would strike that from your list. Only (talk) 01:02, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
I made a small adjustment to what I stated earlier. It is what I meant but I stated it unclearly. --Pending(tell me I screwed up and where)
I think what Only meant is that you should probably wait a little while to see if they are editing Wikipedia constructively, then welcome them. TCN7JM 12:46, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
If a new user vandalizes a page, should I welcome him with a welcome vandal template? Pending(tell me I screwed up and where)
That's what I usually do. It has more information for the user than a normal first warning does. TCN7JM 13:03, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

How do you request the rights for patroller?

On the Request page I see past request but I do now see how to request.Pending(tell me I screwed up and where)

I don't know how to do it to be honest. I don't see any templates that we would normally use for it. But, I'm going to just go ahead and deny it right now before you even apply. You've only been here two days; not enough experience for us to look at/examine. Only (talk) 21:53, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
Read Wikipedia:Patrollers for more info. One of the lines is "The user right is not normally given to new users, regardless of the number of articles created." Patrollers "make a lot of new pages that do not require patrolling." So far, we don't know if we can trust that you'll make new pages that we don't have to worry about. Only (talk) 21:55, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
I was not going to request it. I am hoping to in the future, thats why I wanted to know. Right now I am focussing on creating a good track record for future things I may want to do such as, a patroller. Thanks for trying to help. 18px Pending(tell me I screwed up and where)

I would have considered this edit to be removing vandalism. Why do you think the change it undid wasn't vandalism? --Auntof6 (talk) 17:25, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

It wasn't becuase it says that you can make any changes below the line as long as there is no profanity. I too did not see that when editing. Pending(tell me I screwed up and where)

My Rights

I already know why you undid my rights. Just because you don't believe me doesn't mean that it did not happen. According to the Rollback Feature's page, a user is allowed to revert his own edit, as long as it does not affect anyone else. I proved to you that it can and did happen. I do not keep my password saved on any website, because I use the same two for everything, and I am a pretty fast typer, that I do not need to. Also, for security reasons. I have had to change every password to the sights I am active on. According to the Rollback rules, there is no reason for you to have taken my rights away. Pending(tell me I screwed up and where) 12:54, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Since you deleted your comments and archived your talk page, I'm going to restore this comment to have a response to you. I did not remove your rollback because you misused the tool in reverting your own edit. I removed it because your account's integrity is in question. Someone making vandalistic edits used your account. I removed the rollback too because a lot of damage could be done with a rollback tool in a vandal's hands. Since a vandal had access to your account (and could very well still have access to that account), I removed it to prevent potential damage. We would do the same thing if we thought someone got hold of an admin's account; we'd remove their admin rights beacuse there is potential for harm. That is why your rollback tool was removed and remains removed. Only (talk) 21:14, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
I understand now. I replied to you after I saw it on my talk page. After reading your comment I realized, and I actually thanked you. I understand the rules and guidelines for accounts that have been overridden. Please see here. Pending(tell me I screwed up and where) 21:20, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
This is why I don't allow my siblings to touch the computer when I am working in Wikimedia. One abuse of a tool will lead to removal of it. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 05:21, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

Please Undelete

Look Kid vs kat doesn't have a Simple Wikipedia article. Please undelete it. It don't know what "Complex article from another Wikipedia, little sign of simplification/conversion" means (talk) 14:39, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

It means the article is not simple enough. Evident from the deletion summary, the article was copied from the English Wikipedia, which means it uses too many complex words. Feel free to write your own article though! George.Edward.C (Talk) (Contributions) 14:53, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
I recreate the article without copying from the English Wikipedia and by simplifying it. P.S. I'm new to this Wikipedia. (talk) 14:57, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
That looks better. You can't just copy and paste something from the English Wikipedia without making it simple English and giving credit to that site. Only (talk) 03:25, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I have deleted the article again. The author put incorrect information in the article, specifically that it had to do with Mongolia, which does not appear to be true. After removing that, there wasn't enough information to show notability. The author put similar incorrect information in Atomic Betty, that time about Kazakhstan, and in Captain Flamingo, that time about the Philippines. I have issued appropriate warnings. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:47, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Well I appreciate the support. Thank you. We're all here to help the project I hope. Only (talk) 01:27, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

You're an admin

so please answer my question. Why is 31 hours a common block time? Seems weird to me. Krett12 (talk) 00:14, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

The reason this is favored frequently is because it usually winds up being more than a 31 hour block. With a 24 hour block, we assume that person has access to edit at that same time tomorrow. With 31 hours, they might not have the access 7 hours later. It further discourages vandals. They're more likely to come back tomorrow than they are in another span. Only (talk) 00:27, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Thank you only. That makes sense. So if you blocked me at 7 PM, the block would be one day later then 7 more hours--at 2 in the morning--pretty smart. But couldn't you just do 48 hours? Krett12 (talk) 01:20, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) That would be the same problem. If a person is online at the same time every day, it wouldn't matter how many whole days they were blocked. The idea is to have it not be a multiple of 24 hours. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:26, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
If you say so, but that doesn't make sense as 24 and 48 hrs are also common block times. Krett12 (talk) 01:28, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
In my mind it's partially what Auntof6 says, but partially the perception thing. 48 hours seems SO much longer than 31 hours when you look at it in terms of time, but they're in practice about the same block in many cases. As for 24/48, we tend to use 24 with disruption from established accounts as a first block, then 48 if there's more disrutpion. Only (talk) 01:49, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
So that's why it was 24 when you blocked me? I count as "established"? Krett12 (talk) 02:30, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Do you have a problem with your original block duration, or think it was unjustified? If so, this is not the most suitable place to discuss it. Chenzw  Talk  05:00, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

24 vs 31 is just personal preference. Some do it one way others do it the other. I do it for the reasons Aunt mentions. More often than not making the block slightly longer than 24 hours causes the person not to be able to edit at their normal time the next day and causes them to forget about Simple Wikipedia as a target. -DJSasso (talk) 15:08, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Guess what ;)

You said I'd never be able to use it ;) Krett12 (talk) 02:22, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

You used your template unnecessarily after I'd already warned the user. And, again, it's redundant to NPA. And, also, there's random commas in the middle of it. Please stop using this template. Only (talk) 02:25, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
I was told NPA wasn't appropriate for things like that a while ago so I wanted to create one that did. But I can still use the template, I just can't mark it as "official". Krett12 (talk) 02:27, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
Well you shouldn't use it because it's a crap template that seems official to the novice eye. Only (talk) 02:28, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
But I should still use NPA template? What about a situation where an admin tells a user who only joined a few months ago and is trying to help that their templates are "crap templates" (Just an example, not that it's actually happened or anything *roll eyes*). That's not attacking the editor, so I couldn't use NPA. Krett12 (talk) 02:32, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
We're done here. Only (talk) 02:34, 10 December 2015 (UTC)
