Warm welcomes

Thanks for the the warm welcome to the wikipedia, simple.en

I have a few months experience at the regular wikipedia.en and am thoroughly addicted. I don't consider the article as much more than a stub. And not a worthy subject. I edited like I was kicking dog mess into the gutter. I agree with the notion of detailing the popularity of racism in the late 19C, but it may have been lost on that single page. Your man, Arthur Schopenhauer, was a good thinker, but not an independent one.

By the way, your english is better than most Australians. Best wishes, Fred 13:50, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. Some very interesting points you raised on bigotry against German people, etc. Unfortunately it is late here, but I will continue this interesting discussion soon. Although, it may not be simple. Regards, Fred 16:40, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I met some lovely people visiting Perth from Nuremburg this evening. They were missing some sort of sausage, so I recommended a German beer garden that I know (What do you say, 'biergarten', 'brauhaus'? Feel free to laugh at my german).

Biergarten sounds more common; Brauhaus is more like a brewery (with tasting facilities for the beer).

Anyway, back to business: The article will need to illustrate the prevailing views of the period. This is very important. But it needs to be objective. This is very difficult. The assumptions or stated views of the party's leadership are worthy of inclusion. The 'benefit of hindsight' is not as plain as people imagine. I hope the people of the future find our current civilisation just as absurd.

The severest critics of that period of our history (in your country) have also subscribed to nationalism and bigotry. The worst kind of bigotry, in my view. The English speaking media do not produce countless documentaries on the bombing of Dresden or Tokyo. This is where we (wikipedians) can make a difference. Objectivity is a process, not an absolute position. I think we agree on that? The article should not be, at any time, from the point of view of one person, especially the subjects. I thought a bit of that may have slipped through onto the page. It does comes across when all the associated articles are read. Most readers will not read them all.

The problem is the problem every conflict has. The history is written by the winners; And as of now, even doubting that the events happened the way they are described may be a criminal offense.

I am glad they are there to edit because I would not have started them.

Thanks for your comments and encouragement at this wiki. Let me know if you need an english speaking or australian comment. Fred 12:26, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

You are welcome -- Eptalon 02:37, 10 January 2007 (UTC) (The indeented comments in yours are also by me.

I am sorry. It was my mistake. I thought about pope John X. I corrected my mistake. Bacus15 16:04, 17 January 2007 (CET)

Unprotection

I would like to request the unprotection of all the articles in the Category:Basic_English. The word lists do not fully match the original source (Ogden's word list from 1932) and I would like to make minor changes. DenisL 15:47, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

New here

Hello, this is my first day here. I've taken Palm tree and Eucalyptus from the English wiki and adapted them for this site. I have also created Bromeliad. Could you please give them a look and tell me if i've got the right level of simplicity? thanks. Totnesmartin 22:21, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

As you asked, I've made some additions to bat. Totnesmartin 19:14, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

second person tag on Information

Hi, you have added a second person tag to said article. As I made some changes to it before, I would very much like to know why. In changing the passive intro paragraph to active, I used the first (or is it fourth?) person (we), but that is one of the Wikipedia:Examples_of_simpler_English. Best regards, Rimshot 10:03, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello Rimshot, and welcome to wikipedia; I added the you template there, because I (personally) fell that the "we ..." equally makes an assumption about the reader (than the you does). Perhaps I am wrong about that; a changing of the guide you specify would really need discussion. --Eptalon 10:36, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Instead of we, one could use one. I think that would be harder to understand, however. The examples are not a guideline, if I understand them correctly, but rather illustrations of the guidelines. Therefore it is not really clear who's right. If that is alright with you, I will just remove the tag. Otherwise, I'd suggest starting a discussion at simple talk. Maybe that would clear this point up for other editors as well. Rimshot 10:50, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
I do not think it would be fruitful to seek someone ot blame. Witch hunts rarely solve problems; Remove that tag; a discussion on simple talk, would be better suited to clarify the position.--Eptalon 12:28, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
I will do that. Thanks for your time. Rimshot 12:35, 2 February 2007 (UTC) Edit: Thanks for putting the discussion on Simple Talk. Rimshot 12:38, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Question,

How do i get the wikipedia defcon on my page? I put the words Template:Wdefcon on it, but it wont show up — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michael223 (talkcontribs) Script error: No such module "Unsigned".

  • You must have copied it from EN. That template is not used here. Perhaps you could try another one, like PullToOpen's?-- Tdxiang 02:17, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Eptalon. Do you know who this Kate McAuliffe is? Emails were sent to us admins to enquire. Thanks.-- Tdxiang 10:40, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Impersonators and possible blocks

Hi, I've noticed that new users with obvious impersonator names are being created. Can I recommend that I you block "on sight" those accounts? Thank you, M7 17:27, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Ooops, sorry. My (grammar) mistake... I do not make any block here as long as there is one admin present... So the message was written for *you* yo block them. --M7 17:36, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Content

Why are you copying content directly from en.wikipedia articles over here? I thought that was contrary to WP:NOT policy. --Loki 22:08, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Bastide question

The article says they are mainly in France and all the ones listed as well known seem to be French, so I am wondering if category:History of France would be better than Cat:history? -- Creol(talk) 01:21, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

With Bastides being a type of city it certainly does get tricky. We should probably go with removing cat:bastides from Cities in France using the reasoning that a Bastide is just a method or style of construction and not an actual city itself. They are more appropriate in History of France (one hasn't been built for some 600 years) and Buildings and structures (buildings and structures in France would be nice, but not quite enough articles to make that feasible - Cat:Bastides, Channel Tunnel, Eiffel tower, Cat:Basilica.. actually that might be a good idea.) or possibly Architecture. We could then add Cities in France as a second category to each city in bastides.

Bastides arent solely in france, but the cat can be added to other areas with bastides or if we get enough of them, split up into Bastides in France, and what ever other countries as the articles get added and warrent a split. Though if we currently do not have articles for non-french bastides or just have one or two, it would probably be best not to bother with adding them to countries when almost the entire category would not apply. In those cases, Cat:Bastide and Cat:Cities in Country would most likely be best. -- Creol(talk) 23:15, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Opus Dei

I reverted myself on the talk and added a request for someone to translate it. I had tried Babelfish'ing it from Italian, but it made no sense to me and with the heading name and spelling, I felt it safer to revert it the first time.

Selective restoration

I have done a selective restoration on your talk page to get rid of the link that was added by a vandal to your talk page. The link was to a website that had personal information of everybody's favorite KMcA on it. Cheers, PTO 23:20, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Good thought

Good thought. I thought the block would be transferred when I changed the username... Archer7 - talk 13:08, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Yochanan Vollach

Hapoel and Maccabi Haifa fans thank you for fixing the page. He is considered one of the best players ever and head of Maccabi Haifa, he is also the person that built Maccabi haifa football club (He equals in Israel like Franz Beckenbauer is for Germany). I see you are German; Vollach has a page in Wikipedia Germany (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yochanan_Vollach) that needs to be fixed, perhaps adding translation from English version. If you have time to do so we will thank you for that.

Fairuse

Does this Wiki not have a fairuse policy? Do you think I should copy one from the English Wikipedia and attempt implimenting it? --Deskana 16:00, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

APT41790 Copy from EN

I'm sorry but it's been awhile. Do you happen to know which page it was that I copied? I would be happy to simplify it now that I have more time.APT41790 22:06, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Never mind. I found it. Sorry about that. I'll spend some time working on that article now. APT41790 22:07, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

How can the article be "deadlocked"? (I know what "deadlocked" means. I have a dictionary) Can you list what this article still need in the space below?Coffsneeze 16:24, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Edgar Allan Poe

Hi, I left a reply on ed's talk page. Sometimes we wonder why did a great mind like that die at the age of 40.5, but we should be grateful he might have died at 39.5. Just an observation. I think you can take the cleanup tag out.Freddy 18:50, 11 May 2007 (UTC) 18:50, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Your Page: instant soup

"Sometimes water needs to be added before heating." I retrieved this quote from your page -- instant soup. Is it true that sometimes water is added? What substance do people use in replace of water? I think the new substance is important to include in the article. A reason should explain why some soups do not need water. They don't need water because water is already added before purchase. Template: Wikisourcelang

I got the template to work. It isn't the prettiest job in the world but it does do the job it is designed to do. I had to do a little work around the problem of there being no simple wikisource to handle the job of interwiki shifting and locating the page automatically. A detailed description of the problem as well as what is needed in it's usage to ensure it works properly is on it's talk page as well as the template page itself. -- Creol(talk) 17:05, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

False Comment on my Talk Page:

There is an article on instant soup in the complex English Wikipedia as well as on the simple English wikipedia. Hmmm . . . maybe I shall translate it . . . or I may add the nutrition facts on instant soups and Ramen noodle soups. Delicious! :) Coffsneeze 20:49, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

NOOOOOOOOOOO

You deleted the pictures of donkey kong and princess peach, but I got them from MarioWiki. Isn't that good enough? Because mariowiki downloads it from commons, did'nt you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Secret agent with brown hat (talkcontribs) Script error: No such module "Unsigned".
