The Rambling Man

Ended on 11.51, 19 June 2008 (UTC) (26 support, 1 oppose)

Well, I haven't been around Simple English Wikipedia for long but I hope some of my experience at English Wikipedia will go some way to allaying any fears of any potential misuse of the tools or inappropriate behaviour. For those who don't know me, I'm an administrator and bureaucrat over there.

During my time here I've created 91 articles, mainly sport but some "most wanted" and a "translation of the week". I've also created two templates and eight categories. I've also contributed to preventing vandalism by reverting changes and nominating pages for quick deletion. That's primarily what brings me here to RFA. I've been particularly frustrated over the past few days by a number of persistent vandals against whom I can do nothing but issue a level four warning, report to Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress and keep fighting. There appears to be several time slots during my Wiki-active day when no admins are around to perform blocks, delete {{qd}} pages etc and that's the gap I aim to fill, should the community feel comfortable in promoting me. I'm happy to take questions here or on my talk page. Thanks for your time. The Rambling Man (talk) 12:00, 12 June 2008 (UTC) The Rambling Man (talk) 12:00, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Support

  • 15px Support - A couple weeks short of the 3 month mark, but good focus on key areas (1687 edits with 70% in the mainspace, most usertalk edits are vandal warnings and welcomes), a high need for deletion tools (over 100 QD edits in 2 1/2 months) and reasonable need for blocking (8 times had to use WP:ViP). Appears to have general understanding of our policies and a strong level of experience and trustworthiness on other wikis (en: B'crat). The little oddities of our policies, guidelines and (most importantly) practices that he is not familiar with should not be hard to pick up. Multiple reasons to support and hasn't shot himself in the foot yet and given any blatant reasons to oppose. -- Creol(talk) 12:36, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
  • 15px Support Excellent editor (must be even brilliant if Creol supports him...) Majorly talk 12:46, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

  • 15px Support — Seen him around and have no concerns. Cheers, Jack Merridew 13:56, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
  • 15px Support - I checked your block log and you've been blocked indefinitely for vandalism! I'm not sure about whether you're a good choice for admin or not now :P --Gwib -(talk)- 14:10, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
  • 15px Support - When I saw you had run, I thought it was just another failed (maybe SNOWing) RfA. But you had very good reasons, and you have much edits. And with support of being an Admin/B'crat on the English, I will give you my trust. -- ApEtSIG 14:13, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
  • 15px Support Based on what I know of you over on English, that alone is enough for me. -Djsasso (talk) 15:02, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
  • 15px Support good vandal ;) --vector ^_^ (talk) 15:10, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
  • 15px Support, I've seen your contributions all across RC for the last few days, almost every time I've been online. No issues here. TheWolf 16:40, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

  • 15px Support Meets all of my criteria for adminship here, including 1,000 total edits, vandalism reversions, good deleted edits and has been an overall help to this site. Tools for this user will only be a net positive for this site. Good luck! Razorflame 18:27, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

  • 15px Support Definitely a trustworthy editor, and I know he'll make a great admin on this wiki. нмŵוτнτ 20:25, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
  • 15px Support - but of course!! Super guy, very friendly and kind. Amazing dispute resolver. Strong support from me! :) - Alison 20:44, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
  • 15px Support One of the best vandalism-taggers we have at the moment...If he could also remove the vandalism tagged that way, this would save work for the other admins. No seriously, this guy has real use for the toolset. He has proven his worth, so why not award him the flag? ;) --Eptalon (talk) 20:48, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
  • 15px Support Of course. Have not known him personally, but anyone who managed to become a bureaucrat on Wikipedia...is like a god. Cassandra (talk) 06:48, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
  • 15px Support - A very useful editor on enwiki and Simplewiki :) ..--Cometstyles 12:36, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

  • 15px Support I belive the user will have a great use of the tools. I've seen the user on Wikipedia with administrative tools, so I don't see any issue to oppose this candidate. Good luck! --Kanonkas (talk) 15:43, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Oppose

15px Oppose Too inactive.--   ChristianMan16  17:50, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

out history - Sorry but I prefeare quality, not quantity. This link is better IMHO --vector ^_^ (talk) 11:51, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
His edits are consistent ([1]). Besides, I was inactive for 2 months and still passed my RfA. --Gwib -(talk)- 17:53, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
I assumed that cause he doesn't edit much on pages like WP:AN, WP:ST, WP:RfA, WP:RFD. My bad...although I still cannot give my support on those grounds cause I see them as crucial edits for an Admin-to-be.--   ChristianMan16  18:01, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
ChristianMan16, thanks for your input to the process. I'm curious as to why you'd add a notice to my talkpage about my RfA while you oppose my promotion. You are correct that I haven't spent much time in the areas you've identified but all I want to do is maintain and improve Simple English Wikipedia and hopefully have made nothing other than a positive impact here. All that notwithstanding, thanks for your time. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:10, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
I added it cause people should know you up for adminship...it doesn't matter what I think when it comes to that.--   ChristianMan16  22:44, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
I've got nothing whatsoever to hide but please leave it to me if I decide to add this kind of "advert" to my page. Thanks. The Rambling Man (talk) 06:09, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
That's fine. Your not offended are you? I never wanted to offend you.--   ChristianMan16  17:21, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Comments

  • Are you certain that he is one of the best vandal taggers we have? Razorflame 21:43, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
  • I wonder if it is possible to WP:SNOW to success? *muses* Microchip 09:56, Tuesday, June 17 2008 Utc
Usually, administrators tend to hesitate in closing RfA's early because even in the last few days, there could be a life-changing event that would make the candidate unable to fulfill the role of sysop to its fullest. Hope this helps! Cheers, Razorflame 20:23, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
I was actually thinking the same thing. Wondering if WP:SNOW could work in reverse... ← κεηηε∂γ (talk) 14:30, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Those of you who are confused about the links that User:Gwib and User:Vector gave because it leads to the "Permission error" page, please look at this. He was blocked accidently. Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 06:54, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
